The Line Between Poison and a Cure


Hi everyone here's another blog and this time our topic will be Toxicology. So what is toxicology really? Well if we split the word into two, toxic is basically the harmful substance that affects or body which can also be called as toxins and if you read my previous blog you would know that ology would be the study of. However a more precise definition would be the study of the function, effects and usage of toxins in our body.

Dosage is the key word that determines whether a certain substance will become a poison or a remedy. For example you are taking medications because you have a fever the correct dosage or amount of the medication you use will cure you and an that's not enough will no cure your state of sickness. Too much can kill you in other words poison your body. Below are the different toxic agents.

Health hazards associated with toxicology in the workplace
Clinical toxicology
Clinical Application of the study of the effects of toxins in the body mainly for diagnosis
Forensic toxicology
Associated with legal aspects of toxins on humans and animals.
Regulatory toxicology
Deals with the standards of what is lethal.
Descriptive toxicology
Testing of chemicals and it provides information for safety evaluation and regulatory requirements.
Mechanistic toxicology
Mainly associated with the understanding of the molecular structure and mechanism of the toxin
Environmental toxicology
Deals with the study of toxins in the environment
