Endo-crin-ology

Different people define the same word very in various ways.  Some come up with an eloborate explanation which evolves into a more complicated meaning than the word it self, while some are defined very straight to the point and precise.  Lets define Endocrinology. Well if you’ve heard of the fact that many words we speak and say today come from old or past languages spoken like Greek and Latin, then pat your self on the back cause you heard right. The word Endocrinolgy is basically a combination of two Greek words. The first part “endo”,  is a Greek term for within while the third word “ology”  is the Greek term for “the study of”, maybe you are wondering what meaning does “crin” serve for the word “Endocrinology”. Well that’s basically the part where defining the word gets more elaborate and complicated,  but to put your mind at ease for a bit “crin” is also known as the prefix for “secrete”.

Honestly if your not a total major, hardcore medical professional you would probably get bored and most likely close this page and log in on your Facebook or Twitter account. So lets make it easier for you and I by keeping this short and simple by giving pieces of the puzzle and maybe if you seem to like how they fit it would encourage you to do more research on your own.

So basically inside our body exist many complex and specialized glands that secrete hormones. Now these certain glands play a huge role on our growth and development as we age.  If you are above 13 years you’ve probably heard of the word “hormones” already and if your thinking that hormones are one of the chemicals that these so called Endocrine glands secrete, then yes your right. Now these hormones may vary in their mission so lets keep it simple and name only two so you can at least understand the principle and purpose of such excretions. Testosterone is the male hormone and the main reason for the physical appearance of men. Main reason why males grow facial hair and muscle development. For the females they produce the hormone Estrogen which provides the emphasis for their physical features. With that said lets compose short metaphor, lets say that Estrogen and Testosterone are puzzle pieces for two separate puzzles. If we place the testosterone piece on the male puzzle the out come would be a complete puzzle, but if we place the same piece on the female puzzle it would not work the same way and would provide with the undesired image and vice versa. Now imagine that these were not puzzles and what would happen to the mix up. That is where the endocrinologist comes in, to study the secretions of the body  and their effects and potential bad effects to our body hence the subject Endorcrinology comes as well.

Thanks for reading more blogs to come =)
